A Positive School Culture How-To
My major takeaway from this book is that Dr. Nolan knows what’s going on “on the ground.” He is not writing from the 20th floor of some far removed headquarters building. I don't know about others but that is a big sell for me because I appreciate the common sense in these pages. No doubt, plenty of these practical suggestions would help to build camaraderie among leaders and teachers, which is desperately needed in these times of adversity and change. I don’t want to spoil the read but there is a plethora of information contained in these pages, information that - if implemented sincerely - can improve the morale among staff in the school system. The private sector would benefit just as much!
Visionary Look Into What's Ailing Our Schools!
I really enjoyed reading this book! It's an easy read with so much information that excites your creative juices! I immediately felt like someone was listening to what I've been saying for well over ten years as to what's wrong with our public-school system. The administrative body would fare better to read and adopt some of these simple fixes to school morale among the instructors/teachers and students. We as a body of educators cannot advance unless we present a "UNITED FRONT"! This division among the staff has been the root cause of many of the problems we face today in the modern classroom environment. I have already started looking into ways to bring about commonalities among my team of teachers and would advise anyone in the public/private arena to look into what Dr Nolan has to say and apply it! Awesome, keep up the good investigative work.
Quintessential Text for School Leadership
This book is a quintessential text for school leadership, which can be adapted for district leadership as well. I appreciate the salient points of each chapter as well as the “Critical Thinking” questions that spur reflection and action. I appreciate the correlation of the school leader, the teacher actions, as well as the wrap-up with the “Moving Forward” section. This text could be utilized for a scope and sequence (i.e. “Theme of the Months”) to foster effective school leadership and promote positive school culture. I will continue to revisit the text to glean more, apply, and reflect on leadership practices. Thank you for the practicality and relevance of this text. We really need to develop and maintain school leadership and instructional excellence through the lens of support and high expectations.
